Abstract
Clinical observation was made on 10 cases if tramatic injuries of the liver treated at Capital Army Hospital during past 3 years inclusive of 1963.
1) Penetrating gunshot and shell fragment wounds were the most frequent causes.
2) Except for those who had sustained blunt abdominal injuries, all cases had associated injuries to the other intraabdominal organs.
3) All cases were treated by debrifement and suturing of the injured liver and extensive drainage, and wedge resection of the injured liver was carried out on two occasirns the lesions being confined to the liver edge. Injuries to the other intra and£¯or extra abdominal structures were treated appropriately at the time of initial surgery.
4) Two cases developed exteral and internal biliary fistulae, the latter being biliary pleural, who were treated conservatively, resulting in cure. The value of the conservatism in the treatment of the biliary fistula was confirmed.
5) None of the cases showed hemorrhagic diathesis, whlch might be attributable to the liver injury, during and following the surgery.
